Pantrionychians

Pantrionychians are the clade that includes softshell turtles and pig-nosed turtles as the only surviving members, and all of the other extinct turtles that are more related to these than to other types of turtles. They are found throughout tropical and temperate regions of the globe. Although mainly aquatic carnivores or omnivores, some extinct pantrionychians were also terrestrial herbivores. They largely represent members with flat shells, making them much less tall than some other turtles, in terms of proportion.
