Crocodylomorphs are a group of archosaurs that includes crocodilians and its extinct relatives. They were far more diverse in the Mesozoic and early Cenozoic, than they are now. The first crocodylomorphs originated in the Late Triassic and were mostly small, ligthly built, active terrestrial carnivores. With the Jurassic, the more well known aquatic and marine forms started to appear. The Late Jurassic, Cretaceous and Cenozoic saw a wide diversification of the group. The lineage that includes modern crocodylomorphs, the crocodilians, only formed in the Late Cretaceous. Today, they represent the largest reptiles on the planet.
